Save the Jetty Foreshores from new residential development.

The NSW State Government is continuing to push for large multi-unit residential developments east of the railway line in Coffs Harbour.  It is the equivalent of creating a new suburb of Coffs Harbour on land that has been zoned for recreational open space since 2008.   This proposal will destroy the peace and harmony of the Jetty Parklands, the jewel in the crown of Coffs Harbour,  an area loved by residents over many thousands of years.  It should continue to provide peace and harmony recreational space for future generations of  Coffs Harbour residents and visitors.

The City of Coffs Harbour Council has a plan to enlarge and enhance the Jetty Parklands,  without residential development.  It has offered the State Government of NSW a very good price plus two blocks of land in the city centre area zoned for residential development to help with much needed social housing.

The State Government development proposal will create very significant traffic and parking problems and will privatise open space that is meant for the enjoyment of the whole community.   FORESHORES FOR ALL!!!

Foreshore for All is a community movement for protecting the public lands of the Jetty Foreshores (east of the railway line) from being turned into a new residential suburb of 1000 or more residents.

This partnership of Gumbaynggirr elders, community leaders and residents from the Coffs Harbour area and beyond, are acting in unity to protect the Jetty Foreshores as a place for all people to visit and use.The group is raising funds for the June 2ndTownhall meeting and celebration at the Coffs Harbour Yacht Club at 12pm and other campaign expenses such as advertising and flyers.

The Coffs Jetty Parkland Users Group (CJPG) are residents of Coffs Harbour who believe the character of the Jetty Foreshore Parkland should be preserved.

We support sustainable development that enhances the area to meet the needs of the Coffs Harbour community and tourists to our region.

We appreciate that the community has a diverse range of opinions regarding the Jetty Foreshore and its future development. Recent community engagement highlighted the complexity of this issue and the necessity for creative planning to achieve the best outcome for residents and tourists alike.

CJPG is open to discussion of all the possibilities but fundamentally stands opposed to high-rise development and over-commercialisation of this space. We believe it should remain essentially parkland and that enhancements to the area should be aimed at improving amenity for all users.

Our aim is to provide the community with information so that you can make informed decisions. In the past there have been too many “back room deals” and a lack of transparency regarding the future of the Jetty Foreshore.

This is an important issue for the whole community. It’s your land, what do want to do with it?

FORESHORE FOR ALL!
