Campaign Update 6

On Sunday morning (04/08/2024), the Foreshore for All team were at the Harbourside Markets to talk to people about the proposed State Government revitalisation plan for the Jetty Foreshores and the upcoming poll being held by the City of Coffs Harbour in conjunction with the local government elections on 14th September 2024.
August 4th
Early team raring to go!

It was a beautiful day and the community was out in force enjoying what the markets has to offer. We talked to many people, some who were unaware of what was proposed regarding residential development, others who, while aware of what was proposed, were unaware of the Council poll and others who wanted to seek further information on the whole refined masterplan.

We sold t-shirts to people who were keen to get out and about in them whenever and wherever they could, in the hope that the community would take notice of the message. We would love to sell more, as well as corflutes should people want to support us by putting one in their front yard. They are for sale at the bargain price of $15 each.

  • After having various conversations, it is important that the community understands that:
  • The proposal to sell off land at the Jetty Foreshores and allow multi-level residential accommodation is a STATE GOVERNMENT plan, and NOT the City of Coffs Harbour’s plan
  • The City of Coffs Harbour does NOT support the rezoning of land at the Jetty Foreshores to enable private residential development
  • The City of Coffs Harbour does NOT support private residential development at the Jetty
  • The poll that is being held is not binding, however if there is a large majority vote saying ‘NO’ to Private Residential Development, it gives the community and the City of Coffs Harbour the opportunity to push back against the State Government. The State Government would hopefully see that what they are doing is against the community’s wishes and have a rethink. (I know! It’s wishful thinking, but we live in hope).

The Foreshore for All team will be at the Harbourside Markets every Sunday leading up to the elections, weather permitting. Come along and say hello, and if you have anything that you want to find out more about, we will be happy to chat with you.

How you can help…

A big thank you to the volunteers who helped staff the stall on Sunday and engaged with the community to provide information on the proposed development and the importance of the upcoming poll. If you haven’t already registered your availability to assist at the Market stalls, and are able to assist for a couple of hours at any of the upcoming Foreshore For All Sunday market stalls prior to the 14th September poll, please register your support via the Supporter Registration form and we will be in contact.
