Foreshore For All Media Release Prime News

Thanks to all the supporters who attended the ‘Foreshore For All’ Media release at the Jetty Foreshore on Thursday

The Community has spoken. Around 48000 poll papers were counted and over 33000 people have clearly voted NO to multi-level private residential development at the Coffs Harbour Jetty Foreshore. That equates to almost 7 out of 10 or 70% of voters. A decisive number.

Gerry McGilvray is a member and spokesperson for the community group Foreshore For All. The community group has been advocating against multi-storey private residential development and the sale of public land at the Jetty Foreshore as proposed by the NSW State Government. Ms McGilvray says “We now expect the council and state government to respect the poll and act in accordance with the wishes of the people.”

“Clearly, the people disagree with the state government’s plan to include private residential in the Jetty Revitalisation plan. The poll results also place doubt over the entire state government plan for the area, as they contradict the results from the government’s own much criticised survey.”

“The State Government must immediately halt the planned rezoning of the land. The plan to rezone land from public recreation to multi-level private residential does not have community support and will be strongly opposed.“

“The community group, Foreshore for All, stands with the community and does not support the rezoning and sale of this public land to allow privately owned residential development. The land should retain its current zoning as public recreation, and any improvements to the area should maintain the primary use of the land as public recreation for the benefit of the community and visitors” Ms McGilvray said.
